Live Project Series (Ep 3 - Final)
In this 3-part series, Mike walks us through a complete main floor renovation. In Episode 3 we get to see all of the finishings of the completed project.
In this Burlington project, the final reveal shows just how much a well-planned renovation can change the way a home feels and functions. What started as a series of disconnected spaces is now a more open, practical main floor with a custom kitchen, a refreshed family room, updated stairs, and a cleaner connection to the basement. As a renovation contractor, Bosch Services approached this home with a focus on better layout, thoughtful storage, and finishes that support everyday family life.
This kind of transformation is what makes a well-executed home renovation so valuable. It is not just about replacing finishes. It is about improving flow, function, and comfort across the spaces your family uses most.
Wider stairs and a better entry experience
One of the first things you notice in this finished project is the new staircase. We were able to make the stairs wider and rebuild them with new posts, handrails, split-finish metal pickets, and a carpet runner. That gives the main entry a more finished look and makes the stairs feel more comfortable to use every day.
We also changed the basement stairs by removing the wall that had been dividing them from the hallway. In its place, we added handrails and improved the openness of the area. Along with a new door to the side yard, these changes help the circulation through the home feel cleaner and less cramped.
A custom kitchen designed for real life
The kitchen is one of the standout parts of this renovation. It features custom cabinetry, quartz countertops, a full-height backsplash, and lighting that supports both function and mood. If you've seen the earlier stages of this project, you'll remember that this area used to be the dining room. We changed the window to a countertop-height window so the new kitchen layout would work properly and still bring in natural light.
We also added a pot light above the sink on a separate dimmer, along with under-cabinet lighting. These details matter in a kitchen because they make the space easier to work in while also helping it feel warm and finished in the evening.
Smart kitchen storage that makes daily use easier
Beyond the finishes, this kitchen renovation is really about usability. The cabinetry includes a narrow bank of pull-out drawers, a two-bin garbage pullout for waste and recycling, and a corner cabinet solution that makes hard-to-reach storage much more practical. There is also a dedicated spice pullout and utensil dividers, both in the main cabinetry and in the island.
The island includes standard shelving below along with a built-in microwave and a full-depth pullout underneath. These kinds of storage features help keep counters clear and make the kitchen easier to use day in and day out. That is a big part of what makes a great kitchen renovation. It should not just look better. It should work better too.
A new family room anchored by built-ins and a fireplace
Just off the kitchen, the family room has been completely reworked. We installed built-ins beside the fireplace and added a reclaimed mantel to bring warmth and character into the space. These details give the room a strong focal point and create useful storage without making the room feel crowded.
Earlier in the project, the windows in this room extended down to the floor. We removed those windows and installed new ones that sit much higher on the wall. That change allowed us to build cabinetry underneath, install the new fireplace, and make space for a future TV mount above. It is a great example of how changing one architectural element can unlock a much better layout.
We also added low storage in the window seat area, which gives the family a place to tuck away toys, books, and other everyday items. That kind of hidden storage helps a busy family room stay functional and easier to keep organized.
Refreshing the two-piece bathroom
As part of the renovation, we also updated the two-piece bathroom on the main floor. The space now has a custom cabinet with quartz countertops, a single-hole faucet, and a new toilet. It is a straightforward powder room update, but it fits with the rest of the home and helps tie the finished main floor together.
Even smaller rooms benefit from being considered as part of the full renovation plan. When the materials, finishes, and workmanship are consistent, the whole home feels more intentional.
Why this renovation works so well
What makes this Burlington renovation feel successful is not just the custom kitchen or the new family room. It is the way all the pieces work together. The stairs are more comfortable, the basement access is cleaner, the kitchen has better storage, and the family room now has purpose-built cabinetry and a stronger focal point.
That is often the difference between a renovation that simply updates a house and one that genuinely improves how the home lives. At Bosch, that is what we are always aiming for. We want the finished space to feel like it was always meant to work this way.
