Central Burlington Family Home Renovation: Reworking the Main Floor and Bedrooms
For this Central Burlington project, the homeowners wanted more than a new kitchen or a fresh coat of paint. They wanted their home to work better for their family every day, from the main floor right up to the kids' bedrooms and bathrooms. As a renovation contractor, Bosch Services rethought the layout, improved storage, and refreshed finishes throughout so the house now feels cohesive and family ready from top to bottom.
This kind of whole-home update is a good example of how a renovation can improve both how a space looks and how it functions when you treat the project as one connected plan instead of a series of one-off updates.
Opening up the main floor and moving circulation
On the original main floor, the kitchen and family room were divided by a load-bearing wall. That wall blocked sightlines and cut the main living space in half. As part of this renovation, we removed that wall, installed a beam to carry the load, and created a more open connection between the kitchen and family room. Now everyone can see each other and be together whether they're cooking, relaxing, or helping with homework.
The old staircase to the second floor had a full curve that ran all the way up. It took up a lot of visual space and made the foyer feel tighter than it needed to. We removed the existing stairs and installed a new set with updated posts, handrails, and pickets. At the same time, we changed the way you enter the basement. The original basement entrance started near the front of the house and turned tightly, which made it awkward to use. We relocated that entrance toward the back so you can now go straight down the stairs without fighting the corner.
At the front door, we finished the foyer with a herringbone tile inlay. That detail gives the entrance a more polished feel and helps define the transition from outside to inside.
Upgrading the laundry room and powder room
Everyday spaces make a big difference in how a home actually feels to live in. In the laundry room, we installed new cabinetry for storage, added hanging space for clothes that need to air dry, and included a new sink with quartz countertops. The washer and dryer now sit side by side with a clean surface over top, which makes the room more practical and easier to keep organized.
The main floor powder room was also fully updated. It now has a new vanity, countertop, sink, faucet, toilet, light fixtures, and a fan. Together with a full-light frosted door, the space feels brighter and more current while still providing privacy.
A brighter, more functional family room
With the load-bearing wall removed, the family room is now directly connected to the kitchen. That change alone makes a big difference in how the main floor feels. The family can share the space more easily, and it's much more comfortable to host friends and extended family.
New flooring and trim tie the rooms together, so you don't feel like you're stepping from one style into another. The main living area now feels like one continuous room instead of a series of separate zones.
A custom kitchen with storage for real life
The new kitchen features custom cabinetry, quartz countertops, under-cabinet lighting, and a new exhaust system over the cooking area. A composite sink completes the work zone and provides a durable, easy-care surface.
The island is finished in a different colour than the main cabinets, which gives the kitchen a two-tone look. The contrast helps anchor the island as a central gathering point in the room.
Storage and everyday use were a big focus in this kitchen. There's a walk-in style pantry with plenty of shelving so the family can see what they have at a glance. Open shelves make it easy to grab frequently used items. A beverage fridge keeps drinks handy without crowding the main fridge. On another wall, a built-in microwave sits with closed cabinetry and a dedicated counter space for small appliances, so they don't take over the main counters.
Creating an in-home office
Like many families, these homeowners needed a proper in-home office that wasn't just a desk in the corner of a shared room. By reconfiguring the main floor and taking over what was once a more traditional living room, we were able to create a dedicated office space.
The room now includes a proper desk area, overhead lighting, and a feature wall treatment behind the workspace. That background looks good on Zoom and FaceTime calls and helps the office feel more intentional and finished.
Updating the kids' bedrooms and bathrooms
Upstairs, we continued the renovation with updates to the kids' bedrooms and bathrooms. The main bathroom now has a custom-made vanity that fits the space properly, a quartz countertop, new faucets, a new bathtub and shower enclosure, Aria vents, and a large soap niche built into the wall. The niche adds both storage and a clean, built-in look.
All of the bedrooms received new carpet, trim, casing, baseboards, and doors. Those details make a big difference in how fresh and finished the upper floor feels.
A custom bedroom and ensuite for the only girl in the house
In the girl's bedroom, we removed the original closets to open up the room. In their place, we built custom cabinetry that provides organized clothing storage and a dedicated desk area that clearly gets used for schoolwork and creative projects. It's a smarter use of the same footprint and helps keep the room tidy.
We also built a new bathroom for her. The ensuite includes a new vanity with countertop and faucet, a new toilet, and a complete shower enclosure. Together, the bedroom and bathroom create a more personal space that still fits with the rest of the home's design.
Pulling the whole home together
What makes this Central Burlington renovation stand out isn't just any one room. It's the way the main floor, stairs, bedrooms, and bathrooms are all thought through as one project. Sightlines are better, storage is smarter, and the spaces where the family spends most of their time now match how they actually live.
From the basement entrance to the foyer, kitchen, office, and kids' spaces, everything ties together so the house feels like it was always meant to look and function this way.
